About the book
A boy living in a ruined town goes looking for the Once-ler to learn the story of the Lorax in Dr. Seuss's rhyming picture book. The Once-ler, an elderly inventor and manufacturer, recalls arriving in a valley of Brown Bar-ba-loots and Truffula Trees, then cutting down one tree to make a garment called a Thneed. Out of the stump emerges the Lorax, who speaks for the trees and objects to what the Once-ler is doing. The story is widely read as a fable about greed, industry and the destruction of the natural environment, and Dr. Seuss named it his personal favorite among his books.
Timetastic co-founder Gary Bury named Dr. Seuss's children's books as his favorites to read, citing The Lorax for its take on environmentalism.

Truthfully, I have 3 young kids so don’t get much time to read other than to my kids at bedtime. So you’ll understand when I say my favourite books are Children's books by Dr Seuss, they’re a joy to read and cover a range of social and political issues with an elegance and simplicity that exceeds many adult books. The anti materialism/ consumerism ‘Grinch Who Stole Christmas’ and ‘The Lorax’ about environmentalism are favourites in our house.
