About the book
Wayne Huizenga's rise from garbage collector to corporate titan is traced by Business Week reporter Gail DeGeorge. In 1962 Huizenga borrowed $5,000 from his father-in-law to buy an old garbage truck and a few commercial customers, the start of Waste Management, which grew into the largest waste collection company in the world. He went on to ventures from portable toilets to pest control, then in seven years took Blockbuster from 19 video stores to 3,700, with annual revenue above $4 billion, selling it in the 1994 Viacom and Paramount merger. DeGeorge also covers his move into sports as owner of three major franchises: the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins and Florida Panthers.
Mohnish Pabrai puts the Wayne Huizenga story on his top ten list and calls it an inspiration.
