About the book
Paul Millerd grew up in a small Connecticut town and reached a high-paying consulting job working with CEOs, yet in his early 30s he sensed that something was wrong and walked away. Leaving forced him to face how little he knew about what he really wanted. In the years that followed he lived in different countries, experimented with new ways of working and took long breaks from work, and out of those experiments he pieced together the ideas and principles he calls the pathless path. Rather than a how-to book of hacks, it is a personal account of turning from the socially accepted default path toward work that matters to him.
Ali Abdaal said he was highlighting it heavily halfway through, that it deals with feeling on the wrong path in life and working out what one really wants, and that it made him more at ease with his decision to quit medicine.

Been highlighting this like crazy, halfway through at the moment. It talks about what to do if you feel you’re wandering down the wrong path in life, and how to figure out what you really want. It’s got me feeling more OK with my decision to quit medicine.
