About the book
Graeme Simsion's debut novel introduces Don Tillman, an Australian genetics professor who is gifted at his work, awkward with people, and convinced it is time to find a wife. True to his orderly habits, he designs the Wife Project, a sixteen-page questionnaire meant to screen out smokers, drinkers and anyone who runs late. Rosie Jarman, a bartender, falls short of his criteria, yet Don agrees to use his DNA expertise to help her identify her biological father, and the two begin the Father Project. The novel opens a trilogy, and the Australian Book Industry Association named it Book of the Year for 2014.
Bill Gates called it clever, funny and moving, a story about being at ease with who you are, and Ali Abdaal listed the audiobook among his 2021 favourites.

Anyone who occasionally gets overly logical will identify with the hero, a genetics professor with Asperger’s Syndrome who goes looking for a wife. (Melinda thought I would appreciate the parts where he’s a little too obsessed with optimizing his schedule. She was right.) It’s an extraordinarily clever, funny, and moving book about being comfortable with who you are and what you’re good at. I’m sending copies to several friends and hope to re-read it later this year. This is one of the most profound novels I’ve read in a long time.
I recently devoured the audiobook of The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion.
