About the book
After self-publishing her first collection, Milk and Honey, Rupi Kaur agreed to write two books for Simon and Schuster, and The Sun and Her Flowers, released in 2017, is her second book of poems. Illustrated by Kaur herself, it moves through five chapters named for the life of a flower: wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming. The poems deal with heartbreak and loss, trauma, healing, femininity and the body, while the rooting section turns to immigration, borders and female infanticide. Kaur took the title from the way sunflowers rise with the sun and turn to follow it. The collection had sold a million copies by January 2018.
Brene Brown included it in her list of four books for new beginnings.
