About the book
Sabrina Mahfouz's anthology brings together British Muslim women, from established literary names to emerging spoken word artists, to break apart the narrow image of the Muslim woman. Its pieces give voice to users of Islamic Tinder, a disenchanted Maulana who hosts a TV chat show and a plastic surgeon blackmailed by MI6. One follows an actress of Middle Eastern heritage who dreams of playing a ghostbuster but keeps being cast as a jihadi bride. Alongside stories of honour killings and doomed love in besieged places are warm connections and challenges to the status quo, set anywhere from Algiers to Brighton and showing many forms the search for belonging can take.
