About the book
Set in the antebellum South, Colson Whitehead's novel follows Cora, an enslaved woman on a Georgia cotton plantation who is shunned even by the people she lives beside. Caesar, who came to the plantation from Virginia not long before, proposes that they flee together on the Underground Railroad. In Whitehead's version the railroad is literal: a hidden system of tracks, tunnels and station agents beneath Southern soil, with engineers and conductors carrying runaways north. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction, and Barry Jenkins adapted it as a television miniseries.
Barack Obama included it on the summer vacation reading list he released in 2016, and Bogdana Butnar, head of strategy at Poke, said she was reading it simply because it is very good fiction.

Currently reading two things: one is The Underground Railroad, by Colson Whitehead, which is a Man Booker nominee, and to be very honest, I'm just reading this because it's really good so my expectation is to just get the sheer satisfaction of a good piece of fiction.
