About the book
Alice Hoffman's new series opens in 1950s Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Ava, a bright newcomer from small-town Maine, begins her first year at Radcliffe College. She meets Lauren, the wild, brazen daughter of an old and wealthy Cambridge family, and despite their differences the pair share more than they seem to. The Lilith Society, a secret circle of witches at Radcliffe dating from colonial times, recruits them both. The society meets in the name of Lilith, Adam's first wife, and the shadow of McCarthyism hangs over the creative and intellectual life of the town.
