About the book
At the center of Steve Chappell's technical manual on building traditional timber frames is pegged mortise and tenon joinery. Most of the text was first written in 1983 and served for years as the handout manual for the Fox Maple Timber Framing Workshops, going through several revisions before its general release in 1998. At that time no test results existed for pegged joints, so its engineering relied on data from bolted connections. The revised edition adds newly published test results for several of the most common pegged joinery conditions, updated engineering specifications, and more than 150 new photos and drawings. Nearly every section was expanded to clarify the joinery, design and construction details of a frame.

This book is fantastic for teaching the old world and increasingly rare joinery techniques for framing. These techniques were used for houses that lasted for hundreds of years, far longer than many of the modern western homes of today.
