About the book
In 1970, Si Morley, a commercial artist bored with his job in New York, is recruited into a secret government project that uses self-hypnosis to attempt time travel. Its subjects imagine themselves into the past so completely that they actually arrive there, and Si's launching point is an apartment in the Dakota, whose view of Central Park has changed little since 1882. He has his own reason to go back to that year: Kate has a partly burned letter from 1882 holding a mystery he wants to trace. Jack Finney works real period photographs and newspaper engravings into the story, and Stephen King later called it the great time-travel story. Finney eventually wrote a sequel, From Time to Time.
Karen Pfaff Manganillo, co-founder of By Karen and Jess, said she has always been obsessed with New York past and present and has probably read it 10 times.
