About the book
When Helena, a veterinarian who has eased thousands of animals to the other side, dies herself, she finds that moving on is not easy and fears her 37 years meant little. She haunts the life she left behind, while David, her attorney husband, struggles with grief and with her houseful of damaged animals. What affects all of them most is her absence from her final project, Cindy, a chimpanzee who may hold answers to questions of communication and consciousness. When Cindy is slated for an experiment likely to end her life, David must draw on what Helena taught him to save her, and Neil Abramson turns the novel into a courtroom drama.
Kid Genius co-founder Craig Pearce said it is likely his favorite non-business book, one he first picked up because of the labrador retriever on the cover.

I don’t read a ton of non-business books, but my favourite is likely Unsaid by Neil Abramson. It’s a great story about a veterinarian, who has died and her husband who must take on her responsibilities beyond what he would ever imagine. Although I was originally drawn by the labrador retriever on the cover (I have two), the story is more about a chimpanzee embattled in a legal fight.
