About the book
In 1973 the young folk singer Elle Harlow is at her height, with two much-loved albums and a hidden history of heartbreak, when she gives the biggest performance of her life on the Grand Ole Opry stage and then vanishes. Almost twenty years later, Marijohn Shaw, eighteen, spends her summer pumping gas in a sleepy Pennsylvania town and writing songs on a broken mandolin, wishing she had a mother. Her father, Abe, insists he was the last to see Elle alive. Then a meteor hits the woods near their town, and something from Elle's past turns up in the debris. Amy Jo Burns moves the novel between Appalachia and Nashville.
