About the book
Journalist Neal Gabler traces how Walt Disney made animation an art form rather than a novelty, beginning with Mickey Mouse and moving on to features such as Bambi, Fantasia and Snow White. Gabler presents a man driven by a wish to escape, iron determination and obsessive perfectionism, and follows him over two decades as he remade the entertainment business. The biography shows how Disney built a company that tied together theme parks, merchandise, television, film, music and books in a way others later copied, and it sets the public achievement beside the private life. It won the biography prize in the Los Angeles Times Book Prizes.
Tools of Titans reports that Marc Andreessen and Brian Chesky have both read and recommended it. Chesky has described Disney as the iconic founder who bet everything again and again while hovering near bankruptcy.

Brian Chesky (Co-Founder/AirBnB)
Walt Disney [...] was a hero, he left behind an unbelievable legacy. You kinda hold him regard as the iconic successful founder. He was brilliant. The thing that's amazing is Walt bet everything over and over, was always on the brink of bankruptcy, and almost should never have been successful.
