About the book
Political scientist Eric Kaufmann, who teaches at Birkbeck in London, argues that the rise of Donald Trump and of Europe's populist right is a response to broad demographic change rather than to economic anxiety. He notes that Western societies are growing more mixed-race: most American babies born now are non-white, and minorities and people of mixed race are projected to become the majority in Britain and other countries by the end of the century. Covering Europe and North America, Kaufmann weighs the evidence and asks how conservatives and cosmopolitans alike might see the shift positively. The Financial Times named it one of the best politics books of 2018, though other reviewers were sharply critical.
Tyler Cowen chose it as one of his two top picks for the best non-fiction of 2019.

I will opt for Eric Kaufmann's Whiteshift and also Pekka Hämäläinen's Lakota America, with Julia Lovell on Maoism and Alain Bertaud on cities as the runner-ups.
