About the book
Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, argues that Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election because he was a master persuader with a deep grasp of the human mind. Adams, a lifelong student of persuasion, publicly predicted Trump's victory in 2015, while mainstream media still treated the candidate as a sideshow. His case is that people respond to emotion rather than reason, so facts matter only when they land emotionally, and listeners invent reasons for their choices afterward. He describes tactics such as directionally accurate claims with a big exaggeration, and linguistic kill shots like Low-energy Jeb. Adams says the same tools work beyond politics, and he saw them in Steve Jobs. The 2017 book also offers tips on everyday communication.
PiperCreative CEO Aaron Watson called its persuasion lens on human behavior and the 2016 election fascinating, and said it was already starting to influence his writing.

This one’s going to be controversial. Adams, the creator of Dilbert, was one of the first commentators to come out and predict that Trump would win the 2016 presidential election.
How’d he do that? By viewing the world through his Persuasion Filter. This reframing of how humans interact, the world works, and why Trump won was fascinating. It’s already starting to influence the way that I write. Check it out.
