About the book
From the 1930s onward, Paul Rand's graphic work is gathered here in a wide selection, including many of his best-known designs, alongside many of his essays on design. Each essay is illustrated with examples of what he made, such as trademarks for corporations, packaging, posters, interiors, book jackets and product advertisements, along with work by artists he admired. Together the writing and the images give a view of how Rand approached design in theory and in practice. A later edition reproduces the original's graphic quality and adds an afterword by Steven Heller, after the book had long been out of print.
Kimberly Gloria Choi, founder of Marchbaby Collective, mentioned it in an interview when asked which books she would suggest to young people drawn to her profession.
