About the book
Christopher F. Rufo argues that the radical left has taken control of America's institutions through a slow revolution that began in the 1960s, the decade Mao launched China's Cultural Revolution. Where China's upheaval was fast and bloody, Rufo contends, its American counterpart, built on the same ideas of the New Left, has been calmer and more effective. He traces how the ideas of Derrick Bell, Paulo Freire, Angela Davis and Herbert Marcuse moved, via a long march through the institutions, from prisons into academia, classrooms and human resources departments. Without action, he warns, constitutional equality could give way to a race-based redistribution system run by diversity officials. Published in 2023, it became a New York Times best seller.
Bill Ackman called it excellent and carefully researched, saying it was the first book in years he read with a pen in hand to mark the key passages.
