GETAbout the book
Dan Schawbel argues that a more socially connected workforce is more fulfilled, productive and engaged, and less prone to burnout and turnover. Drawing on his own studies of more than 2,000 managers and employees in the US, UK, China, India, Brazil and elsewhere, he finds that electronic and virtual communication, useful as it is, leaves people feeling more isolated at work. He proposes a leadership model that includes work-life integration in place of the work-life balance myth, and shared learning to stay relevant. The book includes interviews with 100 leaders at companies such as Nike, Starbucks and LinkedIn, the Work Connectivity Index, a self-assessment of team relationships, and team exercises. It appeared in 2018.
Cal Newport, a friend of Dan Schawbel, called it an evidence-based case for old-fashioned, offline interaction as a basis for leading successful teams, close to the issues he writes about.

Cal Newport (Author)
my friend Dan Schawbel has a new book out this week called Back to Human. It provides a compelling and evidence-based argument for the importance of old-fashioned, non-technological interaction in leading successful teams. I’ve always liked Schawbel’s work, but this book hits particularly close to the types of issues I write about here
