About the book
Dick Winters jumped into France on D-Day and took charge of Easy Company after its commander was killed. Drawing on his wartime diary, Winters tells the company's story in his own words, from that jump to the Battle of the Bulge and on into Germany. There his men liberated an SS death camp and captured Berchtesgaden, Hitler's alpine retreat. He adds accounts from his comrades and describes what became of many of them after the war, much of it material that never appeared in Stephen Ambrose's Band of Brothers. Winters, who received the Distinguished Service Cross, also closes with a discourse on leadership.
