About the book
After the Great Recession ends his job as a San Francisco web designer, Clay Jannon takes the night shift at a 24-hour bookstore run by the enigmatic Mr. Penumbra. The few customers keep coming back but never seem to buy anything; instead they borrow huge, obscure volumes from strange corners of the shop under some long-standing arrangement with the owner. Suspecting the store is a front for something larger, Clay sets out to analyze the customers' behavior with help from his talented friends. Robin Sloan's 2012 novel won an Alex Award.
