About the book
Winston S. Churchill's autobiography follows his life from his birth in 1874 through his childhood, schooling and first steps in politics. He recalls his many toy soldiers and the family decision that he should become an army officer. After Harrow and Sandhurst he served in the cavalry, observed the Cuban War of Independence, took part in skirmishes on India's North-West Frontier and read widely in history and philosophy. He learned he could earn a living reporting on wars, became famous after escaping from captivity during the Second Boer War, and won a seat in Parliament for Oldham at 25. In the US it appeared as A Roving Commission.
Sonia Micu, founder of NALU, said she has long cherished it as a beautifully written and highly entertaining look at the young Churchill, whom she calls flawed but brilliant.

When it comes to biographies, I have cherished My Early Life by Winston Churchill for a long time, as the book that had it all for a profane reader like myself. It is beautifully written and Churchill’s writing style is highly entertaining. Plus, it gives you a glimpse into the early years of a flawed (yet brilliant) character.
