About the book
As Yale's chief investment officer, David F. Swensen built the university's endowment around unconventional assets such as venture capital and private equity, and here he sets out the process behind that record. His coverage ranges from goals and investment philosophy to the strategy and tactics of running a portfolio: asset allocation, managing risk, choosing advisers and the traps hidden in each asset class. Real cases, many from his own work, illustrate the points, and he argues that conventional investing tends to buy high and sell low. First published in 2000, it later appeared in a fully revised edition for fund managers and students of markets.
Marc Andreessen called it excellent and pointed readers to it for a detailed account of Swensen's investment approach, which he described as a fascinating strategy.
