About the book
The starting point for historian of religion Mircea Eliade is that modern people who consider their world entirely secular are still, at times and without knowing it, sustained by a memory of the sacred. From it he follows how the sacred has shown itself in space, time, nature, the cosmos and life itself, tracing these forms from primitive to modern times. Along the way he compares the whole human experience of the religious person with that of the nonreligious one. The study works as an introduction to the history of religion, while its perspective also takes in philosophical anthropology, phenomenology and psychology.
