About the book
After Bruce Lee's death, his notes and writings were compiled into a statement of the philosophy behind jeet kune do, the approach to martial arts he was developing. Lee began the project in 1970 while a back injury kept him from training, and the text joins a core set of writings to scattered notes. He meant it as a guidebook to one man's way of thinking about martial arts, not a how-to manual. In 1975 his widow Linda Lee Cadwell chose to release the material, and editors led by Gilbert L. Johnson organized it with help from Linda Lee, Dan Inosanto and other students. Some passages were later traced to authors such as D.T. Suzuki and Eric Hoffer.
