In 1987, Billy Marvin, a fourteen-year-old nerd in Wetbridge, New Jersey, spends afternoons debating pop culture with his friends Alf and Clark and nights writing games on his Commodore 64. When Playboy runs photographs of Wheel of Fortune hostess Vanna White, the boys decide to steal a copy, and after failed attempts they settle on a plan: Billy will befriend Mary Zelinsky to get the security code to her father's convenience store. Mary, though, is an expert coder, already ahead of Billy. Jason Rekulak frames it as a story of young love and friendship, with old-school programming woven through.
