Alec Ross, a former Senior Advisor for Innovation to Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, draws on travels to forty-one countries to forecast the fields that will reshape the global economy. He covers the commercialization of genomics, robotics and artificial intelligence, big data, cybercrime and cybersecurity, and the codification of money and markets. Ross describes robotics shifting from manual, repetitive work to cognitive tasks, cites Japan's use of robots in elder care, and suggests that less developed countries may leapfrog older robotics as they did with mobile phones. He also weighs the effects on jobs, education and inequality, drawing on insights from figures such as the founders of Google and Twitter and David Petraeus. The book appeared in 2016.
