About the book
Set in a small Alabama town during the Depression years of the mid-1930s, Harper Lee's 1960 novel is told through the eyes of young Scout Finch and her brother Jem. Their father, the lawyer Atticus Finch, takes on the defense of Tom Robinson, a black man charged with raping a white girl, in a community marked by prejudice, violence and hypocrisy. Lee treats racial injustice, class and the loss of innocence with both humor and honesty, in a Southern Gothic story of growing up. The novel won the Pulitzer Prize and became a 1962 Oscar-winning film by director Robert Mulligan, from a Horton Foote screenplay.
David Heinemeier Hansson read it in 2018 and said he was enjoying it, noting it had not been on the Danish school curriculum. B.S. Incorporated co-author Jennifer Rock called it her favorite non-business book and said it changed how she thought about leadership and courage.

For non-business, my favorite is To Kill a Mockingbird. It's the first book I ever read over and over until the cover fell off. It changed how I thought about leadership and courage.
