About the book
In the late 20th century, as the United States and Soviet Union compete to put the first spacecraft in orbit, alien ships suddenly take up positions above Earth's principal cities. Arthur C. Clarke's science fiction novel follows humanity under these visitors, the Overlords, who assume supervision of world affairs yet stay hidden and govern indirectly. They demand only that the planet unify, end poverty and end war, and some people distrust their benign intent. The opening section grew out of Clarke's short story Guardian Angel, and the novel became his first success.

There are many science fiction books I've read so far, but one that always comes to my mind when people ask me which one I liked the most is the Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. The ideas presented and the story in the book are so extreme that I will always remember them. To me, Arthur C. Clarke is the best science fiction author of all times.
