About the book
Michael Steinhardt's memoir covers almost thirty years as a hedge fund manager whose average annual returns far outpaced every market benchmark. He explains the strategies behind Steinhardt Partners, the flagship fund he launched in 1967 and ran until his retirement from active money management in 1995: careful industry analysis, stock picking and a willingness to trade against the prevailing trend, which some high-profile clients did not always appreciate. Detailed accounts cover his 1981 decision to stake everything on bonds and a disastrous mid-1990s venture into global macro trading. The memoir also follows his rise from Bensonhurst in Brooklyn to the top of Wall Street.
Nassim Nicholas Taleb praised it in an Amazon review, calling Steinhardt one of the greatest traders in history and saying the book holds a few jewels even if some personal material may not interest every reader.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb (Flaneur)
As a speculator I learned to take the best from books and ideas without arguments (many readers seem to be training to be shallow critics)--good insights are hard to come by. One does not find these in the writings of a journalist. There are some things personal to the author that might be uninteresting to some, but I take the package. The man is one of the greatest traders in history. There are a few jewels in there.
The man did it. I'd rather listen to him than read better written but hollow prose from some journalist-writer.
