About the book
Taylor Larimore, Mel Lindauer and Michael LeBoeuf started out as voices on online investing forums, and their guide turns those discussions into a self-directed handbook built on the ideas of John C. Bogle. The authors argue that trying to outperform the market is a zero-sum contest and that much of Wall Street's standard advice leaves investors poorer. They cover choosing a sound financial lifestyle, diversifying a portfolio, starting early and investing regularly, and keeping costs and taxes low, in place of stock picking and day trading. A later updated edition adds material on backdoor Roth IRAs, ETFs, estate taxes and gifting, and retirement accounts. It first appeared in 2006.
Ramit Sethi called it a no-nonsense investing guide built on the ideas of Vanguard founder John Bogle, written in short chapters and plain language.

Ramit Sethi (Founder/GrowthLab)
This is a great, no-nonsense guide to investing. The book draws on the principles of John Bogle, the founder of Vanguard, and is presented in short, bite-sized chapters in plain language, so don’t worry about running to Google to look up esoteric financial terms.
