About the book
Cornell English professor William Strunk Jr. wrote a short writing guide for his own classes, and Harcourt issued its first edition in 1920. It sets out eight rules of usage and ten principles of composition, adds a few matters of form, and lists commonly misused words and frequent misspellings, alongside plain advice such as cutting needless words and preferring the active voice. E. B. White, once Strunk's student, revised and expanded it for Macmillan, adding an introduction drawn from a magazine piece about his teacher and a closing chapter, An Approach to Style. Time magazine counted the expanded edition among the hundred best nonfiction books in English since 1923.

My professional path – copywriting – somehow intertwines with my unprofessional (hahaha) path – writing so I would recommend reading literature for both. Somehow reading and writing are two ways of doing the same thing: storytelling (even when you read you tell yourself a story in your own voice, bringing your personal emotion and empathy to the story you’re reading). The only difference is that when I’m reading, panic is far away from me, in a safe place. Nevertheless, the words below helped me rewrite and think twice before adding an exclamation point: The Elements of Style.
