About the book
Sam Sheridan's earlier book, A Fighter's Heart, took him to Bangkok, Rio and Iowa to study the physical side of fighting, and this follow-up turns to the mind. Looking for the roots of mental strength, Sheridan interviewed dozens of fighters, coaches and athletes, among them trainers Greg Jackson and Freddie Roach, champions Marcelo Garcia, Frank Shamrock and Randy Couture, the wrestler Dan Gable and the ultrarunner David Horton. The questions he puts to them are practical: how fighters stay committed through years of training, how they plan for a bout and adapt once it starts, and how they project strength when weak and stay tough through serious pain.
Ryan Holiday put it among the very best books he read in 2014, calling both of Sheridan's fighting books spectacular and urging readers not to be put off by the subject.

I read both of Sam Sheridan’s books A Fighter’s Heart and A Fighter’s Mind this year and they are both spectacular. Don’t be put off by the subject matter. They are good.
