About the book
Psychiatrist Daniel Z. Lieberman, a George Washington University professor, and Georgetown lecturer Michael E. Long build their book around dopamine, which they treat as the brain chemical of desire. It keeps pushing people toward more possessions, more stimulation and more novelty, and what matters to it is getting something new rather than having it. The authors use that gap between anticipating and possessing to explain behavior in love, business, addiction, politics and religion. They also take on why winners cheat, why geniuses often struggle with mental illness and why nearly all diets fail. It won the science category of the 2020 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
Andrew Huberman recommends it to anyone wanting to read more about dopamine and said he wishes he had written it. Morgan Housel described dopamine as a chemical with vast influence that people rarely think about.

In fact, a book that I highly recommend, if you want to read more about dopamine, is a book that frankly I wish I had written. It's such a wonderful book. It's called "The Molecule of More."
The Molecule of More. A book about dopamine, the most powerful chemical in your brain that we rarely think about has so much influence on the world. Dopamine doesn’t give you happiness in the moment; it convinces you that there’s happiness in the future that you should pursue, always pushing us for more, more, more.
