About the book
Scott H. Young argues that hard skills can be mastered quickly through structured self-education he calls ultralearning. Young has learned four new languages, and he covered the four-year MIT computer science curriculum in a year. He draws on research about effective learning methods along with the stories of other ultralearners, among them physicist Richard Feynman, Benjamin Franklin, chess grandmaster Judit Polgar and Nigel Richards, who took the French World Scrabble Championship without speaking French. The book sets out a group of principles and a framework for planning and running a learning project, presenting self-education as a way to stay relevant as work changes.
Cal Newport endorsed it, likening ultralearning to a superpower in a competitive economy, and Barbara Oakley, creator of the Learning How to Learn course, called it the best book on learning she has read.
