About the book
Oscar Wilde's only novel centers on a portrait. The painter Basil Hallward, infatuated with the beauty of his young friend Dorian Gray, captures him on canvas, and through Basil, Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, an aristocrat who holds that beauty and pleasure are the only things worth pursuing. Knowing his looks will fade, Dorian wishes that the painting could age in his place, and he gives up his soul to make the exchange. As he turns to a life of vice and stays young, the portrait records each of his sins. The story first ran in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine, where an editor cut passages he feared were indecent, and Wilde later expanded it with new chapters and a preface.

My favorite fiction book is the The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I'm a huge Oscar Wilde fan, he has one of the brightest minds and the Picture is a masterpiece and his unique novel. I consider that you should only read books that you would consider reading again at some point while still enjoying the same pleasure. The Picture is definitely one of those.
